3,800 non-saleable word across 2 critiques
19,000 words worth of quick edits
Alright. It’s Sunday and I had an alarm for 9:30am but instead ended up in bed until noon. Not a champion’s start to the day, but I am determined to make it less slothy than yesterday. The plan is to digest lunch, knock some gym out, then switch over to editing/redrafting THE CHILDESEEKER’S WAR and reconfigure the mostlylies.com website. Maybe dust off some Scrivener publishing skills too. I think I am getting a little burnt out on MIDNIGHT HANDS, having reread it over and over and over in the past two weeks, so time to exercise another creative muscle and let that one recover.
If by tomorrow I can get some of the stuff (MIDNIGHT HANDS, that is) up onto CritiqueCircle (CC), that’d be stellar. I should ease myself back into the way CC works too. I found I felt more comfy submitting stuff once I’d been critting for a bit.
2,000 word crit in ~2 hours.
5:10pm, fueled up and ready to do more stuff… now it’s 10:45pm and last third of CHILDSEEKER has been swept through: about 19,000 words of quick editing / rereading. There were some new scenes inserted too, so a little bit of new writing was injected in there somewhere. Now I have to make some decisions around chopping it up into 4-5 parts, which may cause more edits so that each part has appropriate energy and cliffhangers. Then, ideally, a printed run through for polish and proofing. Then through some CC wringers and beta readers. Commission the cover(s). Then… send it out into the world.
Then another crit, 1,800 words, ~2 hours. I really like doing these!! Best part is they actually give you currency for doing them in the form of reciprocity.
