Today’s the last day of my summer vacation. I’ve been off work since August 3rd, and my brain has gotten somewhat used to the unstructured nature of the days. I’ll need to find the fire and energy to sustain the production of words in the evenings, mornings and weekends. Luckily, the day job tends to create energy versus drain it, and I’ve done it before without massive roadblocks.
However, I am in a ‘neutral zone’ right now: the lull between actively crafting new stories. So, my goal for today is to find some momentum in MIDNIGHT HANDS episode three. If I’m not actively writing new material I find it’s easy to fret away time with micro edits and procrastination. Indeed, flow state only really comes by when being caught up in the story itself!
Later (afternoon)
Spent a lot of thinking energy on the title of MIDNIGHT HANDS today. I began to write the intro to the third ep. It felt like a good place to do a little recap, a kind of “previously on” vibe… since ep 1/2 (or ep 1, part 1,2) serves more like a pilot that blasts by pretty quick. This section of the “season” is the full break into Act Two, and the pace requires a moment to breath and reflect. I digress: I came to a point where I am pretty sure the narrator will invoke the season’s title. Sometimes, you get a good feeling when this is supposed to happen, if at all (it will likely never happen in CHILDSEEKER, for example. Something I just know about it).
I circled around giving the main character a title (e.g. Madame Midnight)… but am swinging back to more of a descriptor of the main quest (e.g. Suspending Midnight). Obviously I like the idea of keeping ‘midnight’ involved. We shall see.
Oh shit. Is it “Hunting Midnight?”
A variant: Midnight Huntress… doesn’t roll off the tongue as nicely.
Before bedtime
I think I’ll go with HUNTING MIDNIGHT. It’s like FINDING NEMO, but way darker? Sure!
Also, wrote about 3,000 net new words and solved the opening sequence! Pow, mission accomplished.
